A multi-level first person shooter game based on Pokémon

the game

This screencast walks through one of the few paths users could choose while playing my Pokemon themed game. The purpose of this project was to create a game using Unreal Engine4. As a kid, I was a huge Pokemon fan. Always watched the tv series, collected all of the trading cards, watched the movies, and of course, played all of the video games related to it. There was nothing better than receiving a new tin can full of Pokemon cards for my birthday. I just loved the show, concept, and design so much. So, when I had the opportunity to create my own game, I knew exactly what I wanted to create; something nostalgic.

takeaways

Video game design is very complex, but very fun and rewarding. It was a lot harder than I imagined, but I learned to have a lot patience while working with this software. Over the course of the two weeks I worked on this project, I learned more about the workflow of Unreal, considerations for game design, and how to create an immersive gaming experience. Overall, Unreal was a really fun software to work with and I loved creating a world that allowed individuals to experience what normally would be a 2D world (such as on the Pokemon show) in a 3D environment.
